PHOTO 6: JOINER
_ Joiners are a series of “close,” photographic images that are combined to produce a creative collage. One can take a “normal looking” photograph and make it appear completely different based on how the photographer “joins” the images together. Students will apply the design process throughout this project. We will not be shooting at random but rather follow a design process to complete a high quality joiner that will draws the viewers’ attention. Joiner Project Page
PART 2 - All Joiners will be photographed (Digitized). Students will explore ways to PUSH their Joiner to the next Level using Layer effects in Adobe Photoshop. Joiners will be compared side by side. Students should critique their work and the work of others before working on their joiner digitally.
GOAL: Create a side by side document that shows the original joiner and the Optimized Joiner
In a Google Document provide a critique for at least three of the works from our Joiner explorations. If a student has already had one recorded critique, please pick someone that hasn’t received any feedback yet. You can share below or view the thread on the VoiceThread website, linked at the bottom of this page.
Please be sure and cover the following topics:
Photo 7: In the Style of.....
Students will emulate the work or "style of a photographer. Some students may choose to recreate a photograph others have taken or choose to apply the style to a more original work. In either case a side by side document will be created that shows the photographers work and the students work.
Students may choose 1-3 images to emulate in their own 3 BEST.
A conversation about Style:
Realize that I am using this project to make you aware the style is critical. You might ask why am I not simply teaching you to have a style. I think the answer is that that comes in time. But to continue that conversation. I am including the following link: FINDING YOUR STYLE
Master Class Discussion - Watch by the end of 3rd MP
Photo 8: Stop Motion (Due date Postponed to 4th MP)
Student will explore Stop Motion Photography. This effect is similar to video but involves the layering of images frame by frame. Create something vs. record something. Interact with the scene. Extend beyond a passive approach i.e recording the sunset, to a more active approach that utilizes animation techniques.

PHOTO 9: Independent Project 3MP - Tricorn?
Students will engage in (4) Photographic Project of their choice as part of the Photographic Imaging curriculum. Each project will be assigned during a Marking Period. The primary goal of this activity is to build a personal connection to photographic growth and exploration. Emphasis is on learning new photographic techniques. All photo projects should be discussed with teacher to avoid overlap.
PHOTO 10: Tricorn Submissions
I want to challenge my class to take hold of the Tricorn and begin to combine the written word with original imagery. Students will be asked to submit 3 Photo Page layouts to the Tricorn magazine.
PHOTO 11 - MSD SHOOTING
Students will be assigned various projects around the district for the 40th anniversary. These will be taken inside / outside of class time of Morristown and the Morris School District.
Adobe Photoshop Lessons
Instructions: Recreate the Warhol - Che Guevara - silkscreen look using Photoshop. There are a wealth of tutorials on the Internet that do this. You are instructed to use your own photo. The photo should have high contrast to it. We will take these in class. Think about an interesting pose / self-portrait for this activity. If you want to look up more images or tutorials Google: Andy Warhol and Tutorials.
Download the folder. There are samples of the Che piece along with a tutorial which could help you in this endeavor. If you do not like this tutorial or method - find your own.
Ongoing - Students will create a fully functioning website that they will update through the entire class. Students will be introduced to this at the end of the marking period.
